Whether you’re a seasoned explorer or a first-time safari-goer, it’s the perfect time to book your winter safari! Find out why with our Top 3 reasons below…

1. Comfortable, dry climate

We’re often asked “When is the best time to visit?”, and the answer is often complex. As the winter months roll around here in the Southern hemisphere, most of the rain has faded away, leaving a landscape that’s still green, but starting to dry out. Nighttime temperatures start to drop, but the days are clear and warm.

And when our day ends? There’s nothing better than sitting around the fire enjoying a glass of wine while you gaze out at the stars.

2. Game viewing & walking safaris

The bush is lush and green, the trees are filled with leaves, the rivers and waterholes are full. The landscape really is looking it’s best during the Winter months. The valley in South Luangwa boasts a wide variety of interesting vegetation, with the scenery dotted by trees such as mopane, leadwood, winterthorn, ivory palm, marula, tamarind and baobab.

With continually increasing game sightings and excellent chances to spot migratory birds, it’s also the beginning of the walking safari season, the wildlife becoming easier to spot as the bush dries out.

For photographers, June and July are fantastic times to visit as the light is clear and it lasts longer.

Skies remain clear and blue, affording picture-perfect settings. The clarity of the light makes the subject ‘pop’ even more, adding an extra special dimension to the image.

You will be stunned by the landscape and panoramic views – not forgetting the impressive wildlife!

While game viewing in our location is amazing throughout the season, leopard sightings are particularly prevalent.

3. Incredible savings

Low season means lower rates, fewer visitors, crisp colours, clear air and amazing safari experiences.

Travelling between June and July offers incredible value with off-peak rates. Generally, you don’t have to book as far ahead of time either. It’s also an ideal opportunity to combine with a visit to see the Lower Zambezi, Kafue National Park and / or Victoria Falls.
