Kaingo/Mwamba Pride Make a Come Back!

A few days ago we were lucky enough to come across the Kaingo/Mwamba Pride and be introduced to their new members. It is great to see that they have made a come back, as the pride numbers were greatly affected late last year. Kaphiri, the male with the knob on his pelvis, killed two of the cubs during the end season fight with the surviving Mwamba male.

We were surprised, when returning this season, to find that Kaphiri was unsuccessful in securing dominance over the pride. It is evident that the 3 Numbu Boys have completely taken over and have mated with the females.

The Numbu boys have sired  2 sets of cubs. The first set are around 5 months of age and the second set are estimated to be just over 2 months. The 2 yearling cubs which survived last years onslaught have not been seen with the Pride in the presence of the Numbu Boys.

We were fortunate enough to be able to take some shots of the new cubs interacting together and some even suckling. Hopefully we will be lucky enough as the season progresses to witness these beautiful creatures grow.
