After tracking the Mwamba-Kaingo pride for almost a month after the opening of the roads and the two camps, I was very excited to see the whole pride together again! There was the two big males, several adult females and some sub-adults. The total number of lions present on the sighting was 18. It it hard to say thought it that is the entire pride as it seems some females may be missing, which means they may be with cubs.

Sadly, one of the males in the pride doesn’t seem to be in a very good condition because he’s got a lot of scars all over his body which we think may be due to a skin disease. Let’s hope he makes it for another season because those males make for a very nice coalition.

PS: after checking with the South Luangwa Conservation Society and the Zambian Carnivore Program, both of whom have seen the lion, they tend to think that he has Ringworm, but will proceed to some skin and blood testing should his condition worsen.
