A few days ago already, we had noticed a dead hippo floating in the Luangwa River, just down river from the main deck, but by morning it had disappeared and we thought it had been dragged further down by crocs.

It was not until 2 days later that we randomly came across the carcass just around the bend of the river, between the Elephant Hide and the mouth of the Ebony Grove. It was the sight of hundreds of crocs lying around on both sides of the river that attracted our attention. You can tell from the picture that not much was left from the carcass, just the skin. But it still provided for violent fights among the crocs.
