Join us for an exhilarating adventure into the heart of South Luangwa as we unveil the latest updates on some of  the big cat sightings we’ve spotted near our camps. Adorbale lion cubs anyone…?

Wednesday 13th September

On their afternoon drive, Sly and his guests spotted Chisomo attempting to ambush a group of puku and impala near Acacia Loop. The baboon’s warning barks meant he was unsuccessful though. Not far away, they also saw Taonga walking across the ebony grove towards Hippo Hospital. These two siblings are still very close and are often spotted together.

Thursday 14th September

Near Kaingo’s Elephant Hide, Patrick and his guests spotted Chisomo attempting to hunt warthogs, but he was again unsuccessful.

In the late evening, Sly and his guests spotted the Mwamba-Kaingo pride, comprised of eight lions, sleeping and resting.

As they continued on their drive, they spotted Mwezi lying in a sausage tree near Kamima Crossing. She came down after feasting on an impala she had hoisted up the tree.

Friday 15th September

On a morning game drive, Sly and his guests spotted lion tracks near Mwamba Extension. After following the tracks, they found the Mwamba-Kaingo pride, comprised of one big male, four females, and four cubs, feeding on the remains of a buffalo.

That afternoon, Sly and his guests spotted Chipadzua and Taonga near Two-Trees Crossing. Chipadzua was seen up in a sausage tree feeding on an impala carcass, and Taonga was seen underneath the tree waiting for her mother to finish. Taonga eventually got up to walk towards the river for a drink but got scared by a crocodile, so she just lay down near the river’s edge, waiting for her mother.

In the evening, Sly and his guests spotted the Hollywood pride near Debbs Tree. The pride, compromised of two big males, five adult females, and five cubs, were seen lying down until one of the cubs got up to play with one of the females, but she was not interested. The playful youngster then went and had a cuddle with its mother and father while the others were fast asleep.

Saturday 16th September

In the evening, Sly and his guests spotted the Hollywood pride, comprised of two females and five cubs, still hanging around near Debb’s Tree. They were seen sleeping on the water’s edge, and the cubs were seen playing around.

Monday 18th September

In the morning, Yoram and his guests spotted Mwezi up in a tree, stalking impalas that were feeding on the flowers of the sausage tree below. She carried on observing them but didn’t take any action. After that sighting, they then spotted Chipadzua up in a sausage tree near the Hippo Hide, resting and taking solace from the heat.

In the afternoon, Sly and his guests spotted the Hollywood pride, again near Debbs Tree, comprised of two males, two females, and five cubs. One of the males was drinking water, and two females were nursing the cubs.

Tuesday 19th September

On a morning game drive near Mwamba Extension, Sly and his guests spotted Chipadzua hoisting a female impala she had killed up a tree. She then got down to drink water. Chisomo found the kill and started eating it while the mother waited on the ground. After eating enough, Chisomo came down to drink water so that Chipadzua could feed on her kill.

Sly continuted the drive down towards the Hippo Hide, where they found Taonga resting on her own.

Wednesday 20th September

In the morning, near Acacia Loop, Sly and his guests spotted Chisomo lying down and relaxing next to a giraffe that was very close to him. He seemed totally unfazed, despite a giraffe’s kick being extremelly powerful and dangerous.

After that sighting, they then spotted a new female leopard up in a tree resting, and, not too far from her, 10 members of the Mwamba-Kaingo pride sleeping!
