Join us for an exhilarating adventure into the heart of South Laungwa as we unveil the latest updates in this week’s Big Cat Round-Up at Shenton Safaris. Featuring leopards, lions AND wild dogs!
Thursday 8th September
On a morning game drive, Sly and his guests spotted the Mwamba-Kaingo pride near Gideon’s Loop, consisting of two males, five cubs, and six females. They were sleeping, while the another pride of eight lions were over near Lion Plain, attempting to hunt impalas but were not successful.
In the afternoon, they followed them as they walked along the road towards the Main Shelf, where they were stalking impalas, but once again, they were not successful.

That same afternoon, Yoram and his guests spotted Chipadzua lying down and sleeping. Not long after they spotted her, she also got up and headed towards Lion Plain… perhaps intriugued by the commotion or perhaps as it’s a great plains area for hunting.

In the evening, Sly and his guests spotted the Hollywood pride near Chankanga. The pride consisted of five adult females, one large male, and five cubs of two different age groups, feeding on a dead hippo they had killed.
The little ones were really getting stuck in, climibing on top of the dead hippo and enjoying the feast.

Friday 9th September
On their morning game drive, Sly and his guests spotted the Mwamba-Kaingo pride again, this time at Saddle-Billed Lagoon. The pride comprised two males, four females, and five cubs, all seen lying down and resting.

After that sighting, they then spotted Chisomo near Acacia Loop, hunting baboons.
When a hyena approached, Chisomo successfully chased it off, but soon after, he found himself surrounded by a group of baboons. He remained on the ground until the baboons eventually moved away, leaving him alone.

That afternoon, Sly and his guests spotted eight members of the Mwamba-Kaingo pride near Lion Plain. The pride consisted of six adult females and two sub-adult males. They all got up and attempted to hunt but were unsuccessful.

Saturday 10th September
More lion sightings for Sly and his guests, as they found the Mwamba-Kaingo pride near the Main Shelf, comprising eight lions. They were seen eating the remains of the dead hippo.

That same morning near Acacia Loop, they also spotted Chisomo and Taonga. Taonga was seen up in a tree trying to hunt baboons while Chisomo was on the ground.
All the baboons were barking at them, and that’s when Taonga chased a younger baboon. From there, the baboons chased both of them into the thicket, and that’s how they were left.

On an evening game drive near Short-Cut Crossing, Sly and his guests spotted a pack of 10 wild dogs chasing Chisomo up a tree!
They waited under the tree for a little bit until they decided to give up, and left.
Eventually, Chisomo came down the tree and headed towards Acacia Loop.

After that sighting, they then spotted Chipadzua near Fish Eagle Lagoon in a gully, stalking puku and impala but she was unsuccessful in her hunt.

Sunday 11th September
On a morning game drive, Yoram and his guests spotted Chisomo eating the scraps of what the wild dogs had killed. After that, he headed off to the top end of Fish Eagle Lagoon.
Not too far away from where Chisomo was spotted, they saw Chipadzua sleeping on top of a sausage tree.

In the afternoon, Yoram and his guests spotted the Mwamba-Kaingo pride near Lion Plain, all sleeping and resting peacefully. The pride consisted of five females, four cubs, and two males.

Monday 12th September
On their morning game drive, Yoram and his guests spotted Mwezi on the main road near Lion Plain, resting and dozing.
After that sighting, near Hippo Hospital, they then spotted Chisomo, also resting and sleeping.
