Most guides know the benefits of listening to the alarm calls of all species and when hunting predators, one listens in particular to the voices of those predators’ natural prey species.

So when Yoram Njobvu and his guests heard Vervet monkeys squeaking in alarm, accompanied by the barking snorts of Impalas and the high-pitched whistles of Pukus, they knew that a particular predator was afoot. That’s when Malaika stepped from the forest, stopped as she realised that she had been spotted and then sauntered nonchalantly into the open.
