The Shenton Family
Derek Shenton, a third-generation conservationist and safari guide, established Kaingo Camp in 1992 and in 2000 crafted Mwamba Bush Camp. He continues to run Shenton Safaris with his wife, Jules.
Derek is Head of Operations, involved in everything from camp and hide building, to guide training, to road maintenance. He’s also on the board of Conservation South Luangwa (CSL), an organisation established to protect the incredible ecosystem of the South Luangwa.
A Zoologist and Wildlife Photographer, Jules is instrumental in guiding the development of our photographic product. Jules heads up our Sales and Marketing team and was one of the founding members of Project Luangwa, which supports education in the local area of Mfuwe. You’ll see Jules’ touch through her imagery and every handpicked, sourced and created item showcased throughout our two beautiful camps.
The Shentons split their time between town and the bush. Their daughters, Saphire and Jayabella, are currently home-schooled and have an enviable split between “city life” in Lusaka and “bush life” at Kaingo.
